TOGETHER | Black Sparkle and 24K Gold Companion Pair | HYPNOTIQ

An original contemporary sculptural artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
TOGETHER is a two figure embrace, modelled as a single sculptural mass. The companions lean into one another so their arms, shoulders and heads interlock, and from most angles the pair reads as one silhouette rather than two bodies. The subject is closeness, made structural.
The bodies are finished in a deep black sparkle that shifts as you move around the work. In low light it holds as near solid black; under a directed source it fractures into fine points of light across the shoulders and backs, so the darkest surfaces of the sculpture are also the most animated.
Against that black, 24K gold is applied to the heads, ears, gloves and legs. The gilding is doing compositional work, not just decoration: it marks the extremities, which are exactly the points where the two figures meet and overlap, so the gold traces the embrace itself and draws the eye through the join.
The pair stands on a custom brick style platform, a hand built base with a fractured, masonry like face that grounds the glossy figures in something raw and architectural. The finish is built up through multiple coats of food safe epoxy resin, which is what produces the deep, liquid gloss and gives the black its sense of depth.
At 13.5 inches this is a strong console, credenza, shelf or vitrine piece, and it holds its own on a plinth.
