MASTER PIECE- Happy Birthday Marilyn (Women Unite Series) | HYPNOTIQ
HYPNOTIQ - Happy Birthday Marilyn (Women Unite Series)
The Work
Beauty can be radiant on the outside while carrying invisible fractures within.
Happy Birthday Marilyn transforms one of the world’s most recognizable cultural icons into a powerful statement about the hidden realities many women endure. Rather than celebrating perfection, this sculpture exposes vulnerability, resilience, and survival.
The work began as a full-scale Marilyn Monroe sculpture, handcrafted by Arian Lori-Amini (HYPNOTIQ). Once completed, the sculpture was intentionally shattered into fragments before being painstakingly reconstructed by hand. Every break, crack, and seam remains part of the final composition—a permanent record of destruction transformed into strength.
The reconstructed figure emerges dramatically from a painted industrial oil drum, illuminated by a glowing “Happy Birthday” neon installation. Marilyn appears to be bursting from the birthday cake, referencing her legendary performance while simultaneously revealing the emotional cost hidden behind the world’s most famous smile.
This work is part of the Women Unite Series, created to raise awareness for women’s rights, resilience, and the unseen emotional wounds carried by countless women around the world.

Artist Statement
We often judge people by what we see.
Someone may appear beautiful, successful, confident, and complete, while quietly carrying unimaginable pain beneath the surface.
Marilyn Monroe became the perfect symbol of this contradiction.
By breaking her apart and rebuilding her piece by piece, I wanted every fracture to remain visible—not as damage to hide, but as proof of survival. The cracks become part of her beauty.
The oil drum represents the weight of society, consumer culture, and the pressures placed upon women, while the glowing birthday message references one of the most iconic moments in popular culture.
This is not simply a portrait of Marilyn Monroe.
It is a portrait of every woman who has been broken, judged, silenced, or underestimated—and who continues to stand.
