An original contemporary sculptural artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
AMOR MAGNOLIA pairs a sculpted magnolia with a sheet of black Plexiglas that has been heated, folded and hand molded into a leaning, self standing form. The acrylic rises at roughly sixty to seventy degrees, carrying the word amor across its face, and the flower sits at the crest of that lean as though the material had been bent by the weight of the bloom.
The tension between the two elements is the subject. The magnolia is soft, layered and organic; the Plexiglas is sharp, planar and industrial. Holding a rigid sheet at an unsupported angle without any visible armature is the technical achievement here, and it gives the piece a quality of arrested motion.
The flower is 3D printed in silk pearl white filament with chrome silver silk filament worked through it, so the petals shift between a soft pearlescent sheen and a brighter metallic catch depending on where the light sits. Against the deep black acrylic the bloom appears lit from within.
The base is cut and formed by hand from a Plexiglas sheet of approximately 5.25 by 12 inches, then heated and folded to its final geometry. No two folds are identical, which makes each version of this form individual.
