BALLOON GUMMY BEAR, LARGE is an original custom 3D sculpted and 3D printed work: a light violet bear standing 12.75 inches tall, holding a chrome balloon, with a head finished in 24K gold leaf.
The work. This is a form modelled from scratch rather than scanned or adapted. The bear reads as soft: rounded, glossy and sweet toned, carrying the visual memory of confectionery at a scale confectionery never reaches. The balloon reads as hard, finished in mirror chrome so it collects the whole room and returns it curved. Nostalgia against polish, in one object.
The gold. The head is finished in 24K gold leaf, with gold leaf splatter worked by hand across the body and over portions of the balloon. Because the splatter is applied by hand its distribution is unique to this piece, and the gilded head gives the figure an unexpected formality against the soft violet body.
For the collector. At 12.75 inches this is a console, shelf, vitrine or plinth work with real presence. It suits pop art collectors, collectors of nostalgic and contemporary sculpture, and interiors that want warmth and humour rather than austerity. The 9 inch small version is listed separately and the two make a strong paired composition.
