CHANEL LOVE, PINK CRACKLE ON BLACK stacks the word LOVE in fluorescent neon pink above a black sparkle shopping bag carrying the house logo and name.
The designer LOVE series. Each work stacks the four letters of LOVE, modelled as soft bubble forms, on top of a fully sculpted designer shopping bag. The luxury shopping bag is one of the most efficient status symbols ever designed, recognisable from across a street before any product is seen. HYPNOTIQ turns it into a plinth and sets the word LOVE on top, so what is elevated is the sentiment rather than the label. Companion works in the series are listed individually.
The crackle. The letters are treated with a chemical crackle that fractures the pink surface as it cures and reveals the white layer underneath. This is a reactive finish, not a painted effect: the chemistry decides where the surface splits, which means the fissure pattern on this piece cannot be reproduced on another. Every fracture line is one of a kind.
Colour and finish. Fluorescent neon pink breaking to white, above a black sparkle bag that holds fine glitter visible only at close range. The pink is the loudest colour in the series and the black is the quietest ground, which is why the contrast reads so hard.
For the collector. A shelf, console, dressing room or vitrine piece, and the work in the series that rewards close inspection most, since the crackle only resolves within a few feet. It suits collectors of fashion inspired art and of reactive and experimental surface finishes.
