DARTH VADER | High Gloss Pop Culture Resin Sculpture | HYPNOTIQ

An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
This high gloss tribute sculpture renders cinema's most recognisable silhouette in layered black, using the studio mirror smooth resin finish to give the figure the visual weight the character has always carried.
The work. Created in 2022, the piece works because the subject was always already a design object. The helmet is a shape people can draw from memory, which means the sculpture does not need to explain itself, and the artist is free to spend all the attention on surface rather than on likeness.
The form. Layered matte and gloss blacks are set against each other across the same form, so the piece is not one colour but two behaviours: light is absorbed in some passages and thrown back hard in others, and the helmet geometry reads through that contrast rather than through added detail. Metallic accents pick out the edges.
Materials and craft. Resin cast figure, layered matte and gloss black finishes, metallic accent detailing, epoxy and a hand finished surface under a high gloss automotive coat, on a display base. In the gallery images the work is shown on a hand painted graffiti oil drum plinth, a recurring display form in the HYPNOTIQ body of work.
For the collector. A tabletop or plinth work for a study, media room, office, bar or collection of pop culture sculpture. It appeals equally to film collectors moving into contemporary art and to art collectors who want a recognisable subject handled seriously.
