DEATH TROOPER reimagines a science fiction trooper helmet as a skull form, with a single embedded crystal eye that catches light with unsettling precision.
The work. Created in 2022, the piece works by merging two objects that already resemble each other. A trooper helmet is designed to read as anonymous and faceless; a skull is what a face becomes. Collapsing them into one form makes explicit what the costume design always implied.
The form. Matte black across the body of the piece keeps it deliberately light absorbing, which is what makes the single crystal eye do so much work. From across a room it glints; up close it is the only point of real brilliance in an otherwise dark object, and the eye follows the viewer around the room in the way a well placed highlight always does.
Materials and craft. Resin cast skull and helmet form with a matte black finish, an embedded crystal eye element, metallic detailing and an epoxy seal, on a display base.
For the collector. A tabletop work for a study, media room, bar, office or a collection of science fiction and pop culture sculpture. It suits collectors who want darkness and beauty in the same object, and it sits naturally alongside the other memento mori works in the catalogue.
