FASHION BUGS takes the most beloved cartoon rabbit in animation history and puts it in heels, complete with red sole detailing and the studio high gloss finish.
The work. Created in 2023, this is one of the most culturally layered pieces in the catalogue, and the layering is what makes it work. Nostalgia supplies the recognition, luxury fashion supplies the styling, and the joke sits in the gap between a character built for Saturday mornings and a shoe built for a red carpet. None of the three cancels the others out.
The form. At 28 inches the figure has real presence rather than reading as a collectible. The pose is upright and posed, closer to a fashion stance than a cartoon one, and the red sole is placed exactly where the eye lands last, at the base of the composition.
Materials and craft. Large resin cast figure with acrylics, spray paint and epoxy under a high gloss automotive finish, with red sole detailing, on a weighted display base. In the gallery images the work is shown on a hand painted drum, a recurring display form in the HYPNOTIQ body of work.
