BALLOON GUMMY BEAR, SMALL is an original custom 3D sculpted and 3D printed work: a light violet bear standing 9 inches tall, holding a chrome balloon.
The work. A form modelled from scratch rather than scanned. The bear is rounded, glossy and sweet toned, carrying the visual memory of confectionery at a scale confectionery never reaches, while the mirror chrome balloon collects the room and hands it back curved. That tension between nostalgia and polish is the subject.
The form. At 9 inches the piece sits comfortably on a shelf, a desk, a vanity or inside a vitrine, and it is read close up rather than across a room. The balloon rises clear of the body on its string, which gives the silhouette its lift.
For the collector. An accessible entry into the series and a natural companion to the 12.75 inch large version, which is listed separately. Shown together the two scales make a strong paired composition. It suits pop art collectors and interiors that want warmth and humour.
