MAMBA LEGACY is a 36 inch commemorative sculpture built around a single decision: leave the body in mirror chrome and let the uniform carry all the colour. The figure stands poised with a basketball in hand, elevated on a black display pedestal.
The work. Sports memorabilia usually tries for likeness. This piece goes the other way, stripping the figure of skin tone and facial detail so that what remains is silhouette, posture and kit. Anyone who knows the sport recognises it instantly from stance alone, which is the point: the legacy is carried in the shape rather than the face.
The form. A liquid chrome metallic skin runs across the whole body, picking up and bending the light of whatever room it stands in, so the sculpture is never quite the same colour twice. Against that mirror, the textured hand painted jersey in yellow and purple, carrying the number 24, reads as unusually saturated, and the vibrant purple high top sneakers anchor the base of the figure. The pedestal beneath carries a sleek gold geometric logo and three dimensional purple lettering marking the years 1978 to 2020.
Materials and craftsmanship. Mixed media construction with a structural core, brought to life in vibrant hand painted acrylics and metallic finishes, then sealed in food safe epoxy resin. The resin produces the flawless, glass like gloss across the uniform and base that sets off the chrome skin, and it is what gives the surface its depth rather than a flat painted look.
For the collector. At 36 inches this is a plinth, console or floor adjacent work rather than a shelf object. It suits sports collectors moving into contemporary art, pop art collectors, and interiors built around a single strong focal point: a home theatre, a games room, an office, a lounge or a sports bar or hospitality space.
