DEEP OCEAN TRAY | Live Edge Wood and Resin Functional Art | HYPNOTIQ

An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
The DEEP OCEAN TRAY is a functional artwork: a serving tray in which a channel of deep blue epoxy resin runs between two lengths of live edge hardwood, finished with polished metal handles.
The work. The live edge is the whole argument. Rather than milling the timber square, the natural irregular boundary of the wood is preserved, and the resin is poured against it so the blue takes whatever shape the tree happened to leave. No two pieces can be identical, because the wood dictates the composition rather than the maker.
The form. The blue channel runs the length of the tray like water seen from above, with the grain of the wood reading as shoreline on either side. Polished metal handles at each end lift the piece into a functional object without interrupting the surface.
Materials and finish. Live edge hardwood with a deep blue epoxy resin pour, hand sanded and finished to a high gloss, with metal handle hardware.
Use and placement. Built to be used: serving, breakfast in bed, a bar cart, an ottoman, a coffee table. Between uses it reads as a sculptural object on a console or kitchen island rather than something that needs putting away.
