OYSTER LIVE EDGE sets real oyster shells into clear epoxy resin across a panel of live edge hardwood, producing a piece that works either mounted on a wall or laid flat and used.
The work. Casting found natural objects in clear resin is a way of suspending them: the shells are neither displayed on the surface nor buried in it, but held at depth, visible from above through a layer that behaves like still water. Set against the live edge of the timber, the piece becomes a small study in two kinds of natural boundary, the edge of a tree and the edge of a shell.
The form. The shells are arranged in a considered row rather than scattered, so the composition reads as deliberate. The natural edge of the wood is preserved along the sides, giving the panel an irregular silhouette that changes from piece to piece.
Materials and finish. Live edge hardwood, clear epoxy resin, set oyster shells, hand sanded and finished to a high gloss.
Use and placement. Dual purpose by design. Mounted, it works as a coastal leaning wall piece in a dining room, kitchen, bathroom or hallway. Laid flat, it serves. It suits collectors of functional art and natural material work, and coastal or organic modern interiors.
