The OYSTER LIVE EDGE TRAY sets real oyster shells into clear epoxy resin across live edge hardwood, finished to a high gloss and built to be used.
The work. Suspending found natural objects in clear resin holds them at depth rather than displaying them on a surface, so the shells read as though seen through still water. Against the natural irregular edge of the timber, the piece becomes a study in two kinds of boundary, one grown by a tree and one grown by a shell.
The form. The shells are arranged deliberately rather than scattered, and the live edge is preserved along the sides, so the silhouette is irregular and unrepeatable. No two trays can be identical because the wood dictates the composition.
Materials and finish. Live edge hardwood with clear epoxy resin and set oyster shells, hand sanded and finished to a high gloss.
Use and placement. Made for serving, for breakfast in bed, for a bar cart or an ottoman, and equally at home left out on a console or kitchen island as a sculptural object between uses. It suits collectors of functional art and natural material work, and coastal or organic modern interiors.
