The LOVE BAG collection is wearable art: fabric and tapestry handbags carrying the studio's neon LOVE lettering, each one hand painted and individually finished.
Please note. These are functional handbags in fabric, not the sculptural designer LOVE bag artworks. The 3D printed LOVE sculptures on sculpted designer shopping bags are listed separately as the LUXE LOVE BAG series.
The work. The premise is a straight inversion of the sculptural series. There, a bag is turned into an artwork you cannot carry. Here, an artwork is painted onto a bag you can. The LOVE lettering is applied in the same graffiti hand that runs through the studio's spray and resin work, so the graphic is genuinely from the same practice rather than a printed reproduction of it.
The form. The bodies range across tapestry, patterned fabric and structured shapes, with beaded and ring handles that give each piece a different character. Because the lettering is hand applied to a soft, folding ground, the graphic distorts as the bag moves and settles, so no two read identically and none reads flat.
Colour and finish. The LOVE lettering is worked in fluorescent neon, most often hot pink, red and green, against the muted grounds of the fabric bodies. Under UV or club lighting the neon lifts sharply off the base cloth, and the graphic reads as luminous rather than painted.
For the collector. These are made to be used and to be looked at: an evening bag, a gallery opening, a night out, or a shelf in a dressing room between wearings. They suit collectors of wearable art and fashion inspired work, and anyone who wants a piece of the studio they can carry.
