An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.

METALLIC SKULL is an openwork lattice skull finished in layered metallics that shift between gold, silver and chrome depending on the angle of the light.

The work. Created in 2022, the piece belongs to a long line of artists who have used the skull as a vehicle for surface rather than as a study of anatomy. What HYPNOTIQ contributes is the lattice: by building the form as a woven cellular structure rather than a solid shell, the metallic finish is applied to an edge condition, so every strand catches light separately and the whole object reads as a mesh of individual highlights.

The form. Because the skull is hollow and open, it changes far more than a solid object as the viewer moves. From straight on the lattice reads as pattern; from an angle it collapses into a recognisable silhouette; raised on its stand it casts an intricate shadow across the surface beneath.

Materials and craft. Skull form with layered metallic paints in gold, silver and chrome, epoxy seal, high gloss finish and hand detailed surface, on a display base and stand.

For the collector. On a desk it works as a small meditation; on a shelf as a conversation piece; in a collection it is the object that prompts the question of who made it. Suited to a study, library, bar, office or gallery corner.
