PIXEL DRAGON | Pop Art Sculpture on Oil Drum | HYPNOTIQ

An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
PIXEL DRAGON mounts a pixelated dragon, rendered in vivid pop art colour, on a custom oil drum base, bringing gaming culture, street art and industrial form into one object.
The work. Created in 2022, the piece takes a visual language that only ever existed on screens and gives it mass. Pixels are a compromise of low resolution displays, and building them physically, as stepped cubic facets in resin, turns a technical limitation into a deliberate sculptural style. The effect is familiar and unfamiliar at once.
The form. The dragon is built from hard stepped blocks rather than smooth curves, so every surface is a flat plane meeting another at a right angle, and light breaks across it in a way no organic form does. Beneath it the oil drum is smooth, cylindrical and industrial, with metallic can detailing, so the base and the subject argue about geometry.
Materials and craft. Resin cast pixel dragon form on an oil drum base, with acrylics, spray paint and epoxy under a high gloss pop art finish, with metallic can detailing.
For the collector. A floor or plinth work for a games room, media room, studio, office, lounge or retail interior. It suits collectors at the crossover of gaming culture and contemporary art, and anyone drawn to work that resists easy categorisation.
