DANCING VENUS is a kinetic Plexiglas torso that rotates continuously and responds to sound in real time. Created in 2022, it is one of the most technically ambitious works in the studio catalogue.
The work. The classical torso is the most copied form in Western sculpture, and it has always been static. Here it turns. Rotation converts a fixed silhouette into a continuously changing one, so the profile the viewer sees is never held long enough to become the definitive version. An integrated Samsung smart tablet built into the piece places ancient subject matter and current consumer technology in the same object without apology.
The experience. With music playing, the rotation synchronises to bass while the neon glow pulses with treble. The sculpture does not simply occupy the room, it performs in it, and it behaves differently at a dinner party than it does in silence.
Materials and craft. A laser cut and hand polished Plexiglas body on a motorised rotation base, with an integrated Samsung S series Wi-Fi touchscreen tablet, UV neon paint accents, glow in the dark elements, LED underlighting and sound reactive electronics. Freestanding on a weighted base.
For the collector. A work for luxury hospitality, experiential retail, galleries and private residences with the space to let a moving object be seen from all sides. It suits collectors of kinetic art, light and sound based work, and contemporary sculpture that engages technology directly rather than referencing it.
