ROMANTIC COUPLE places an embracing pair, worked in iridescent high gloss resin, onto a base of genuine aged olive wood with the natural grain left intact.
The work. Created in 2022, the piece sets two materials against each other that could not be further apart in origin. Olive wood is slow, ancient and shaped entirely by growth. The resin figures are fast, synthetic and shaped entirely by intention. Putting an image of human intimacy at the junction between them gives the sculpture a quality that is simultaneously intimate and geological.
The form. The figures are abstracted rather than literal, reduced to two leaning masses that read as an embrace through posture alone. The resin carries a shifting iridescence that changes with the angle of view, while the wood beneath stays warm, matte and irregular, its natural edge and grain preserved as the counterweight.
Materials and craft. Resin cast couple figures with acrylics and epoxy under a high gloss finish, mounted on a genuine aged olive wood base with the natural wood grain preserved.
For the collector. A tabletop or console piece for a living room, bedroom, entry or gallery setting, and a natural gift for an anniversary or a couple. It suits collectors who want warmth and natural material alongside harder contemporary work.
