An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
A fully functional table lamp built as a parametric skull, where the lighting is not attached to the sculpture but passes through it.
The work. Memento mori, the reminder that you will die, is one of the oldest subjects in art and usually one of the grimmest. Rendering it as a lamp changes the argument entirely. A skull that produces light rather than absorbing it, and that has to be switched on every evening, turns a symbol of ending into a daily domestic ritual. Created in 2021.
The form. The skull is generated parametrically, so the surface is a dense lattice of repeating geometric cells rather than a solid shell. That structure is what makes the piece work as lighting: switched on, light escapes through every opening and throws intricate shadow patterns across the surrounding walls and surfaces, so the lamp projects a second artwork into the room around it.
Materials and finish. A 3D printed parametric skull structure with metallic paint finish and colour accents, an internal functional lighting assembly, resin seal and a weighted base for stability. It takes a standard bulb.
For the collector. Functional art is one of the most requested categories by interior designers because it earns its place twice. This piece suits a desk, console, side table, study, bar or entry, and appeals equally to collectors of skull and memento mori imagery, sculptural lighting and 3D printed design. Off, it reads as a sculpture. On, it redecorates the room.
