CAPTURED SUNLIGHT explores the interaction between light, reflection, transparency, and movement through a flowing architectural composition of UV-reactive neon orange plexiglass draped over polished mirror spheres.
The sculpture transforms rigid industrial materials into something unexpectedly fluid and radiant. Heated and hand-formed into sweeping curves, the translucent plexiglass appears to float, fold, and cascade around the reflective spheres beneath it, creating a dynamic interplay of color, light, and reflection that seems to harness the very energy of the sun.
As light moves across the work, the UV-reactive material continuously changes character. The neon orange surface shifts between electric orange, luminous pink, and subtle red tones, while the highly polished spheres capture and distort their surroundings, turning the entire sculpture into a constantly evolving visual experience.
THE WORK
CAPTURED SUNLIGHT investigates the relationship between permanence, transformation, and radiant energy.
The sculpture begins with a rigid sheet of UV-reactive plexiglass, a material typically associated with precision and structure. Through heat and manipulation, that material becomes soft, flowing, and seemingly weightless, acting as an ethereal trap for ambient light.

THE FORM
The composition centers around a series of highly reflective mirror spheres partially concealed beneath a flowing canopy of UV-reactive plexiglass.
The heated acrylic sheet folds and arches over the spheres, creating dramatic negative spaces, sweeping curves, and layered translucent surfaces designed to catch and amplify illumination.
The polished spheres become active participants in the composition rather than simple supporting forms. Their mirrored surfaces capture reflections of the plexiglass, surrounding architecture, and ambient light, multiplying the sculpture’s visual complexity and creating the illusion of contained solar flares.
One of the defining characteristics of the work is the intense luminosity concentrated along the edges of the plexiglass. These illuminated contours create a glowing linear framework that outlines the sculpture’s flowing silhouette and emphasizes the material’s ability to trap and emit light.
