STORM TROOPER is a mixed media pop art sculpture that mounts a science fiction trooper helmet form on a pair of graffiti painted mannequin legs.
The work. The combination is the argument. A trooper helmet is the most standardised object in popular science fiction, mass produced by design, and setting it on hand painted street legs gives an anonymous system a body that is entirely individual. The result treats a screen icon as serious pop subject matter rather than as merchandise.
The form. The helmet keeps its hard, precise geometry, which is exactly what makes the graffiti below read as loose and human by comparison. The vertical proportion, a fixed head on extended legs, gives the piece an unusual silhouette that holds a room the way a classical bust does.
Materials and craft. A 3D printed structural core, hand sanded to a fully smooth surface, encased in an automotive grade high gloss resin finish, with hand painted graffiti pop art work on the leg elements.
For the collector. Displayed on a pedestal or a lit shelf it anchors a room. Suited to a study, media room, lounge, office or showroom, and to collectors of science fiction subject matter handled at fine art finish.
