An original contemporary sculptural artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
WHEN LOVE MEETS HERMÈS, SMALL stacks the word LOVE in pearl white above a sculpted burnt orange shopping bag, standing 8 inches tall. Two of these small works were made in the studio, each finished individually by hand.
The work. The subject is the language of luxury retail. A shopping bag in one particular shade of orange has become among the most instantly legible signals in fashion, and HYPNOTIQ treats it as a plinth: the bag holds the word up, and the word is what is really being carried home.
The form. The letters are stacked vertically and staggered horizontally so the small column leans and recovers as it climbs. At 8 inches the whole composition sits comfortably in the hand, which changes how it is read: this is a work encountered close up rather than across a room.
Colour and finish. Pearl white letters against flat burnt orange, a single high contrast pairing and no other colour. Because each piece is finished individually, the folds of the bag and the set of the letters carry small differences from one to the next.
For the collector. This suits a shelf, a desk, a vanity, a bar cart or a vitrine, and it makes a natural entry point into the series. The 19.5 inch large version of this work is listed separately.
