WHEN LOVE MEETS HERMÈS, LARGE stacks the four letters of the word LOVE in pearl white above a giant sculpted shopping bag in deep burnt orange. At 19.5 inches it is the anchor work of the series.
The work. The subject is the language of luxury retail. A shopping bag in one particular shade of orange has become among the most instantly legible signals in fashion, and HYPNOTIQ treats it here as a plinth: the bag holds the word up, and the word is the thing being carried home. It is a contemporary tribute to how desire, branding and affection have become entangled.
The form. The letters are arranged vertically and staggered horizontally, so the column leans and recovers as it climbs and the piece reads as a balancing act rather than a stack. The bag beneath is fully sculpted, folds and creases intact, at a scale that gives the whole work real physical authority.
Colour and finish. Pearl white letters finished to a soft luminous sheen, set against the flat saturation of the burnt orange bag. That single high contrast pairing is the entire palette, which is what lets the sculpture stay graphic from any distance.
