ZEUS GOLD REVEAL | Classical Bust Resin Sculpture | HYPNOTIQ

An original contemporary artwork by Arian Lori-Amini, known professionally as HYPNOTIQ.
ZEUS GOLD REVEAL takes a classical bust and opens it, so that beneath the familiar white exterior a mirror bright gold interior is exposed. The classical surface is intact; what has changed is that you can now see inside it.
The work. Antiquity reaches us as white stone, and we have built an entire aesthetic on that assumption even though the originals were painted. Cutting the face open and finding gold underneath is a direct comment on that gap: the restraint we associate with the classical world is a surface condition, and something far more excessive is sitting behind it. Created in 2021.
The form. The bust retains the full sculpted beard, curls and brow of the classical original, rendered in matte white so the detail reads through shadow rather than shine. The revealed section is polished to a high reflectivity, so the two halves of the piece behave in completely opposite ways under the same light: one absorbs, one throws the room back.
Materials and craft. Resin cast from an original sculpt, with metallic gold finish, acrylics, epoxy and high gloss antiquity inspired detailing, on a weighted display base.
For the collector. A piece that establishes authority in a room: an entrance hall, a study, a library, a plinth in a collector gallery. It appeals to collectors who want classical gravitas without a purely traditional object, and it sits comfortably alongside both antiquities and hard edged contemporary work.
